Tracy Moss visits AMES for Internet Safety

Our third, fourth and fifth grade students were able to hear from Detective Tracy Moss from Spartanburg County Sheriff's Department about internet safety. Our parents enjoyed a presentation and lunch from Detective Moss about ways to keep their child safe on the web.

Third Grade Students Use Legos to Learn About SC Regions

Third grade students used Lego kits Wednesday to build a scene from one of the 6 regions of SC. The kids had so much fun! They had to pick one of the 6 regions they learned about and create a scene describing it using their Legos. They had to have at least 2-3 clues, then they shared their clues with the class, and guessed their region. The students can't wait to use the Legos more in the classroom!

Anderson Mill Celebrates 100 Miles!

On May 14th Anderson Mill Elementary School held its first annual 100 Mile Club Breakfast of Champions. Students who ran 100 miles or more were awarded gold medals. Parents and business partners were also in attendance. Our speaker was Jerry Kimbrell, Dorman High School Cross country coach. Fifty-eight of our runners logged 100 miles or more. Five runners out of the Fifty-eight ran 200 or more miles. Our top runner was fifth grader Mandy Lam with 225 miles.

Students throughout the school displayed their love for reading by dressing as their favorite book character. The students concluded the day with a march down the hallways showing off their costume and book to their peers.

Trey Gowdy Visits AMES

Students in third grade at Anderson Mill celebrated SC Day on Thursday, March 20th. They participated in many hands-on activities including creating SC Region cookies and Bendaroo River Maps. The students learned about arrowheads found in SC and learned how to shag. They played SC Jeopardy. The day concluded with an assemble led by Representative Trey Gowdy. Gowdy spoke to our students about demonstrating great character and leadership qualities.

AMES Celebrates South Carolina Walk to School Day

Anderson Mill Students and parents participated in South Carolina Walk to School Day by walking with their grade level during their related arts class. Students were given a healthy snack that consisted of a peach cup to recognize our state fruit. Nicole Brown, coordinator of SC Safe Routes to School, gave a presentation to our parents about the program. AMES had a fantastic time promoting healthy living!
