AMES University

AMES University

At our first School Improvement Council meeting, our council discussed ways to keep our parents informed on different school initiatives.  School has certainly changed over the past few years and continues to change as we strive to provide the very best education for your child.  Of course, research show that children benefit most when parents and educators work together.

AMES University will offer opportunities for parents to learn about different programs being offered to your child in school and strategies for helping them at home.  Please look for information to come home about opportunities to learn more about our school programs.  Our hope is that AMES University will be that link between the school and  parents to ensure that we are all doing everything we can to provide the best possible educational opportunities our children.

The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) is one of the best-known bullying prevention programs. OBPP has been proven to prevent or reduce bullying.

The goals of OBPP are to reduce bullying problems and prevent new bullying problems from happening. The program also works to make relationships better among students. The program is for all students, not just those who are being bullied or who are bullying others.  There are several components of this program to ensure the success.  One being, this program will be integrated with our school-wide character education program. This will be done through our guidance counselors as she holds her guidance classes. Teachers will be holding class meetings weekly to present lesson that deal with different types of bullying issues.

Parents and guardians play a key role in this program. Your child will be asked to tell an adult at school and at home if he or she is bullied or sees bullying happening at school. It will be very important that you take any bullying seriously and tell our school
staff. Our school staff members are being trained to deal with bullying situations when we are told about them.

Should you have any further questions about this program, please do not hesitate to contact our school.
